Author Cannot see images on webserver ?

Hi I'm not sure if this is an apache question or not.
I have a number of images in the html root directory of my website which I
want to link to from another website. To test this I use url/image.gif in my
browser to test it out. The web server is apache 1.3.29.

This works for some images but not others.
So http://www.example.com/image1.gif might display correctly in the browser
window.
But http://www.example.com/image2.gif displays url not found in the browser
window.
If I ftp to the site and check the permissions they are both 644.
Any ideas of what I'm missing ?
Tony

Very hard to tell.
Do you have access to your error log? Check that, and it that doesn't make
any sense to you, post the relevant errors here.

Hi Rik,
Unfortunately the guy hosting the website is unavailable at the moment so I
don't have access to the error logs.
I have checked that the filenames of the image files are correct, including
case. There are no .htaccess files in the folder so I don't
believe the apache configuration is being over-ridden.

Thanks
Tony
