Hello,

when someone connects to www.mysite.com (PHP dynamic site) using
IE/Seamonkey/Opera, the site is showing correctly.
If anyone connects using Firefox, Apache let it download the file
INDEX.PHP renamed random O_O

Everything ran fine until two days ago (Firefox too), when Apache config
was changed... now Firefox is out.

But not completely: if I point firefox to www.mysite.com/index.php it
shows correctly the site, and everything runs OK O_O

What is happened to Apache???

You tell us, you can check what changes have been made to the config.
can't you?

Cannot :-(

I did many trials on almost any config file and (yes, me bad) didn't
backup them before... so I have no way to tell how they were.

However, the problem must be in the site's <virtualhost> section, since
other php sites in the same server (other virtualhosts) works fine.

The same site works fine with other browser too, doesn't it?

Yes. I know what you are thinking - cut & paste the working virtualhost
section - I tried this too. No good.

Browsing the firefox-broken site with Lynx (works fine even with it), it
asks me to accept two cookies, one of them is a 10-char random string
.... hmmm maybe firefox takes this as name of the file to download. But why??

Actually I was thinking more along the line of 'if it works with
browser X and Y, and doesn't with browser Z, the problem is in the
browser, not in the site'...

Have you tried blasting firefox configuration in the PC and starting with
a new fresh configuration? (aka: concentrate on the client, not on the
server).

I didn't tried this yet, for two reasons:

1) firefox worked well before;
2) third party (a.k.a. site users & visitors) reports they can't see the
site as well: obviously I can't go there and tinker with THEIR firefox...

fyi:
www.eduline.it is the firefox-broken one;
ecdl.eduline.it is the full-working one.

Ok, this bit was missing in the beginning, I thought you were referring
to a test site, not a production one. At this point the problem seems / could
be some handling for specific browsers, like the bits handling the
'DAV' methods:

BrowserMatch "Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider" redirect-carefully
BrowserMatch "^WebDrive" redirect-carefully
BrowserMatch "^WebDAVFS/1.[012]" redirect-carefully
BrowserMatch "^gnome-vfs" redirect-carefully

Maybe you can post somewhere your configuration so we can have a look at it?

This looks fine in *my* firefox. Everything seems working.

Even this looks fine. Actually, they looks identical.

Also checked with firefox on a Windows machine, still looks ok to me.

Problem solved. No idea of which of the many config changes did the
trick though o_O

Good. Now. Take a backup of the config file. Now!

I also can see nothing wrong, the headers look ok.
checked (with and without the index.php) using
xp pro sp2: Firefox 2.0.0.1 & 1.5.0.9, Opera 9.02 & 9.10, IE6
linux: 2.0.0.1
(I tested your site through a sesitive proxy which did not detect any
errors in protocols, content lengths etc... either)

i suggest unless you can post your vhost stanza here, that you contact
moodle support for further help. These kind of issues can crop up when
using popular 3rd party php applications, and the best forum for help
would be the moddle forum where a coding bug will make the user group
unhappy. Any application which doesnt conform to standards might
exhibit different behaviour in different browsers. But in general if it
aint working in Opera or FF, then you have found a serious bug worth
fixing. It could for instance be a theme issue or a plugin ... all
application dependent, changing the Apache config may have just
revealed this, unless you added a browser dependent section in your
vhost stanza!

I already did it for other things (asking for help in moodle community),
but the commoners there are mostly teachers & non-techies and not very
helpful on this matter.

Hows about using scientific method: I.E. Make one change at a time and
test it before making the next change. Takes a long time ? Well how
much time has this taken so far and how many people has it got involved.
