Author Can't view some links/directories

I have a server (nurse1.no-ip.info), it works like it's supposed to,
however
some of the links, connecting to other directories, on my server will
not
work. Some of them do and some of them don't. I thought that it was a
permissions problem, but the permissions for the child directories
appear
to be identical to the parent. I'm using etch, kde, apache2, guarddog,
clam, smb4k. Can't think of anything else that might help find a
solution.
If anyone knows what might cause something like this please let me
know???
Most Sincerely,

what does "work" and "not work" mean?
404, 403, 500?
could it be that you have no index.html file there in the ones that
"dont work"
dont want to guess until i know more - too many reasons
