Author server won't start

I am having a problem getting the server to start in the Rational Dev Platfrom. I am running websphere application server v6.0 and when ever I go to hit run, it says:

Conflict detected on port 8880. Likely causes: a) An instance of
the server server1 is already running b) some other process is
using port 8880

so when I run netstat and track down who the culprit is, I find find out that websphere is the one who is connected to the port (so it is not another process). Also, I am not running any other servers, so I don't know how that would be the problem either.

In fact, when I start up the IDE, I check to see the port... nothing is using it and it does not show up in netstat... it is only until I click start server when websphere binds to the port.

So why am I getting this error? Is websphere forgettting that it just opened the port... (most likey not, but I can't think of any other reason why I would get this error).

I have been working on the server successfully for the last week, and I only changed a static html file today before it began to complain.

any help is welcome,
Ryan
