Iam running apache 1.3.29 on Redhat 7.2 7.3. I started noticing on
my webservers that are only serving up image files, no html, they
freeze up for 30 seconds every 2 mintues.

If I tail -f the access_log and whatch it, every 2 mintues the apache
server stops taking request, the tail of the access log stops
scrolling and the load average jumps up 20 from 2.3 The whole server
seems to stop. I can only do basic console commands and get any
responce from the server. Then 30 seconds later the access_log tail
-f scrolls by a big log of traffic and apache takes request again.

I can't find anything in the error logs or a process taking up the
system.

I am at a lose to figure out where to look next?

Any one esle see this on a high traffic image server.

the server is a dual xeon 2ghz cpu with 1 gig of memory. I have
several servers doing this....

thanks
