Specifying web site on port other than 80

| I am testing a server and for some reason it keeps telling me that I have
something running on port 80. I can't find what it is that is running on
port 80, as I don't have IIS running. I use Windows XP pro. So, how do you
specify a web site if you need to use port 8000. Is it:
http://www.mywebsite.com:8000
Thanks,
Bruce

again I really don't so much know what the exact issue is.. ie etc..
use port 80 howeverfrom what I know multiple port 80 services can run
at the same time on xp in 03 I know you can set up broadcast type
servers mediastreaming/fileserving etc..I read about a isp in the
states version or something blocking port 80 broadcasts i.e no server
although if your searching locally this doesn't make much sense.. you
can check to see what hardware you have set up the only other thing is
that perhaps it wasn't configured properly or that version doesn't
support local address(not likely) you can try going to the config
script and adding your COMP ip or domain to accepted addresses to
broadcast too? also check to see that your firewall isn't blocking it
if you are using xp pro as that could be another reason(doubted) or
perhaps other firewalls such as zone alarm are blockign the self
broadcast.. you can always uninstall or even reformat to remove any of
the conflicting services(and it might be a service that is disabled
too....) If you'd like I can do a little reading into it however at
first go I'm not sure what server you are using to test so more
specific information cannot be provided at this time. Although I'm a
newbie so your guess is prolly as good as mine

| Give us some more info. What kind of isp do you have? Are you behind a hardware or software firewall or router? Have you done a port scan? What server are you trying to run? |
