I'm just reading through your posts and have a few questions
I plan on running a server from my house on a bell business line at 4.0mbs,
for the os, I recently seen the soloris-10, I was planning to just use the
linux apache, but since the soloris also uses apache in its system, I really
only want to design and host web pages for the small busines end, I'm not
really a techo person I read up and get by,
so is the soloris-10 more up my alley, it seems to be little more automated
as far as repairing problems and its free for awhile and is it worth buying
?
Also comes picking a server I already have a amd 64 single processor, can I
also use it as a server and do web page design at the same time, will the
soloris allow for this function, or is that a bad idea?
if I have to get another machine for a server is the 64 amd opteron dual
processor a good way to go, or a single amd 64 fx, being that I'm doing
more media as reading and writting
Let me know and thanks for your info.

It's a bad idea - although lots of people do it.

As always: YMMV

If you're system is built for media , etc.... I dont think that I'd utilitze it as a server at the same time.

Personally speaking , I would get a seperate computer to act as my hosting computer.

Theres always going to be the chance of some hacker getting into your system so it's better to keep the two systems seperated. You'll be better able to monitor the activity on your server this way . For that matter you could apt to host off of a little 1.6ghz wal-mart box and all would run just fine.
