Intranet server over Internet?

Hi everyone.

I'm looking to set up a web server for use as an Intranet application, but must be accessible over the Internet (some of my associates are overseas). I guess requirements is that it must be secure, and not "known"/accesible to public. Google shouldn't pick it up either.

I've currently got a web server hosting a web site set up, so I do have a little experience with this.

Does anyone have any tips about setting up an "Intranet" site where one can access over the "Internet"?

Any pointers?
