Problem with IBM HTTP Server + SSL + IE5.x

Does any one encouter problem with IBM HTTP Server, SSL and IE5.x
combination? From time to time, I get dns error during ssl session. I
have read from some other newsgroup that it is because of bugs in IE5
about handling SSL session. What I want to know is:-

Is this a known problem?
Is this platform specific and configuration specific?
Is there any way to get around the problem without upgrading the IE ?
(because that is out of my control)
