I am also receiving this exact same problem using the close to the
same setup (j2sdk 1.4.2 and IHS 2.0.48). Does anyone know if there are
known problems with 1.4.x? I have also tried jdk 1.3 and I received
the same error.

Stephane, are you using WIN2K like I am? Or are you using another OS?

| Hi,
I got the same error as Stephen on Solaris 5.8 (IHS 1.3.28)
I hava 1.3.26 on my WIN 2k and i created the Certs using its iKeyman
and FTPed the files to my SOlaris box and now things are working.
It doesn't solve the problem but atleast a work around like the one
above exists.
Hope this helps.

If Gskit version 7.0.1.13 installed then fix APAR PQ83048 may solve
your problem. Here's an excerpt of its description:
Fix (APAR): PQ83048
:Date: 2004-01-16
:Abstract: Expiring CA and Intermediate certs cause problems creating
:new CMS .kdb file
:
:Description/symptom of problem:
:If one has expiring CA or Intermediate certs in their
:keyring and they try to create a new .kdb file, they
:will recieve an "An error occurred while inserting keys
:to the database" from the Ikeyman utility used to create
:.kdb files.
I observe the same problem on AIX 5.2, IHS 2.0.47.0 and JRE 1.3.1
Here's the link for the description of the APAR
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docvie...&cs=utf-8&lang=
and there youu can also download the fix.
Hope this helps - Gerhard.

I am getting this error on Win2k, using Sun j2sdk1.4.2_03 and IHS 2.0.47. The JDK was installed after IHS. There is no existing key database, this is the first time I've run ikeyman. So, I'm not too hopeful about the APAR mentioned previously. | |

Hello Sean, I would install that fix. On my system I also started with
a new cms database (like you) and got the error mentioned. After applying
the fix I was able to create a new (fresh) cms database.
The fix replaced some gskit stuff. As I see it it's the gskit delivered
with IHS 2.0.47 which makes the problems. It contains "old" CA certificates
(VeriSign class 3 root and intermediate expired on Jan. 07, 2004 ?).
Gerhard.
and that's the culprit...
