Someone else sent me the following information which sure wasn't obvious
or readily discoverable on the web:

In the Aventail directory you will find a program named SPMOD.EXE. Run
it. You will see two panes, each listing things in the stack. On each
pane, right-click and choose the "Aventail" option... it will then
prompt you to delete the shim.


BE CAREFUL! If you screw this up you will do serious damage.
