Hi all,

The Environment:

I have a server running W2K3 Server Standard Edition.
I have IBM HTTP 1.3.28 installed which was installed as part of an IBM WebSphere Application Server 5.1.1 install.

The Problem:

After the initial install, all of the services (WAS 5.1.1, HTTP Administration 1.3.28, and HTTP Server 1.3.28) would start and stay running.

Now about two months after the initial install, I have noticed that the HTTP Server won't stay running. If I manually go into the services screen and start that service, I get a message that states

"The IBM HTTP Server 1.3.28 service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically
if they have no work to do, for example the Performance Logs and Alerts service."

The fact that this service is stopped is giving me problems with IBM DB2 Content Manager for Multiplatforms. It uses the HTTP Server to communicatewith various component.

Has anyone had this type of problem? What types of things should I be looking at to diagnose the problem? I really don't want to uninstall and reinstall if I can help it.

Thanks,

Thank you for your suggestion Sunit. I made the change you requested.

When I run the command C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\net.exe start "IBM HTTP Server 1.3.28" I get a message stating that the service is starting. Then I get a message stating that the service could not be started. The next line states "The service did not report an error." The last line says that "More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534." When I do that I get a message that says "The service did not report an error".

If you have any more thoughts on this matter, I would appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks,

Doug[vbcol=seagreen]

Increase the loglevel to debug in httpd.conf and post the output from error_log when the service stops.

I forgot to mention this. I had renamed the old error.log file to error.log.old. After trying to start the service, I checked the logs directory and didn't find a new one.

I even tried to start the service from the services window. When I do that I get the message that I posted in the original message.

Thanks for the suggestion Juanma,

I did try issuing the net start command for the service from the command line and received a response that the service couldn't start. What command should I issue instead?

Thanks much,

Doug

Try starting from a command line (apache.exe), that could give you some
more information.

Thanks all,

Here is what I get when I run apache from a command prompt.

C:\Program Files\IBMHttpServer>apache
Syntax error on line 563 of c:/program
files/ibmhttpserver/conf/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'SSLEnable', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module
not incl
uded in the server configuration
Note the errors or messages above, and press the <ESC> key to exit.
0....
C:\Program Files\IBMHttpServer>

I looked in the httpd.conf file and found the following.

LoadModule ibm_app_server_http_module "C:\Program
Files\WebSphere\AppServer/bin/mod_ibm_app_server_http.dll"
WebSpherePluginConfig "C:\Program
Files\WebSphere\AppServer/config/cells/plugin-cfg.xml"
SSLEnable
Keyfile "c:/program files/ibmhttpserver/key.jks"
SSLV2Timeout 100
SSLV3Timeout 86400

I am assuming that this error is telling me that I don't have ssl setup
correctly. I thought I followed the instructions in the book correctly. I
need to have ssl working for this app.

Any suggestions on where to look for the problem?

Thanks,

Doug
