Author IHS causes fatal error on Windows Server 2003

We have a serious problem with IHS as described below.

Application: IHS version 2.0.47.1 with all available updates applied (PK01070)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP 1

After applying Service Pack 1 to W2k3 Server, a blue screen fatal stop error is received if the server is rebooted. The blue screen displays "INVALID_PROCESS_ATTACH_ATTEMPT" and STOP: 0x00000005 (0x867a47a8, 0x86148620, 0x00000001, 0x00000000). No other e
rrors are shown in the System event log.

However, the Application event log displays the following error:

"Faulting application Apache.exe, version 2.0.47.0, faulting module libapr.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00006b34"

The server eventually starts after an Automatic System Recovery (ASR) action, as reported in the system event log. After the system has restarted, IHS can be started/stopped from services, but a reboot causes a recurrence of the problem.

If the Apache server service is set to manual start, then the system reboots normally and Apache can be started from the services control window.

Is this a known bug and can it be fixed?

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem. I am experiencing the same problem on a Windows 2003 server. I see there is an interim fix and I am going to try that out, but was wondering if you ever received a resolution to this problem.

Thanks...

OK, wild guess here, but let's see...

See note about ZoneAlarm firewall:
http://www.apache.gamma.ru/dist/httpd/binaries/win32/

If you have one, try to see if disabling Firewall or Anti-Virus helps.

See also not about XP SP2: http://www.techweb.com/wire/security/60402941

Try uninstalling Win2K SP3 (~ XP SP2) and see if it changes.

Or try installing all latest Windows fixes.

But wait... it does not sound like an option: "no hotfix or update currently
available to resolve this problem in Windows Server 2003"

To me, the issue is more a Windows problem than an Apache one.

Do you have auto-update or did you apply Windows fixes recently ?

HTH...

Can you put dependency in the IHS service to start only after the antivirus
service has started or put some kind of wait before the system starts the
IHS service on reboot?
