Using SELECT Statement In EJB Custom Finder

I am wanting to use a select statement within a custom finder method.
Suppose my method is "findByParentName", what would I have to call my finder
statement (e.g. findByParentNameQueryString,
findByParentNameSelectStatement, etc.). I know that coding in SELECT
statements is not recommended, but I need to know how it could be done
regardless. Thanks.
