Installation problem with Commerce Express on RH Linux V9

I'm getting a "Segmentation Fault" and core dump when I try to run
startRun.sh and I've narrowed it down to the version of Java that ships with
Commerce Express V5.5.

I'm running RH Linux V9 (with all of the latest updates) and I upgraded the
JVM to Sun's j2sdk1.4.2 a month or so ago. I also have apache and tomcat
installed on this machine, but they have been stopped for this installation.
(I plan to remove them.)

If I modify the script to run the 1.4.2 version, it seems like it runs fine,
but I never see the initial installation screen and no error messages are
generated.
