| If your products can be described by the built in "configurator" then use
it. But more complex products will require an external configurator. IBM
may have some partner relationships, but the trick is that there are a lot
of configurators that can't handle complex product rules. A few years back
we analyzed the top configurators (ones that use AE to solve complex
configurations). We are using a nice one from Baan and we have integrated
it to our commerce stores. It allows users to combine simple catalog
products and configured products in the same shopping cart (Order). Anyway,
we are using the Baan eConfig Enterprise and an older eConfig 2.2. They
must be run on a windows platform today, but that has not been a problem for
use. We send the user over to the windows server and then back to our
Solaris server without the user even knowing.
If you have more questions please feel free to ask.
