DB2 fixpacks are usually a re-install rather than a patch. DB2 and WC5
fixpacks can be quite large on average these days. Quite normal to see
400MB+ zips.
Commerce is best installed with the DB2 CDs that comes with the WCPE
CDs. Trying to use standalone DB2 CDs (or electronic media) will not
work based on my experience. Commerce can be successfully installed
with the specific DB2 bundle that is shipped with the WebSphere Commerce
media.
Custom installations work as well as Quick Installs, when you have the
right CDs. Yes on additional configuration afterwards. Yes on
installing fixpacks after base installation. You might want to test
that base installation before applying the fixpack.
You'll need that GB of memory. Good luck flying blind...the WebSphere
Commerce forest is very big. Carry extra gasoline for that
chainsaw...you'll need it to become a seasoned commerce lumberjack.
