Saving your Shopping Cart

Hi:
I am looking for ways to implement a shopping cart saving feature that can be activated by a (website) user. WCS 5.6.1 comes with a new persistent session capability which can be used to save session state for all customers, but this can not be enabled or
disabled by a (website) user.
Have anyone implemented such feature in commerce? I am looking for ideas on how to leverage this commerce persistent session to implement such a feature.
