Hello,

I'm currently migrating a 5.1 site to 5.6. I have a question regarding
deployment of WC 5.6.

Our previous setup was:
-1 gigantic DB server with SAN
- 2 application servers running WAS, WCS5.1 and Apache (IBMHTTP Server).
(Cloned)
-1 server running Network dispatcher

Can I setup the same configuration with WAS 5 and WC 5.6? I've read in a
Redbook that I need to Federate and cluster the WC app and when I do that,
the recommendation is to NOT have the IBM HTTP Server on those machines but
on 2 additional servers. And even more...I need a third additional machine
that runs "Network deployment"! For different reasons (you know how it is)
it's not possible at this time to invest in more hardware. So the question
is:

How do I deploy WC 5.6 with 4 servers if "UP-TIME" is the number 1 ranked
quality. One server is dedicated for the database.

I would like to have 1 DB server, 2 app servers with WC and HTTP Server
colocated, and 1 load balancing node. Possible?

/Andreas

Hi Andreas

I think you can achieve your setup using the hardware you have. I am also
working on a migration project migrating our WCS 5.1 Applications (14 of
them actually) to WC 5.6. Our setup is different from the one that you have
as we are following the recommended but with in our configuration you can
have the desired setup as before, the only thing you would need to make sure
is that your application server machines have enough CPU power and memory to
run WAS 5.x App Server, WC 5.6, IBM HTTP Server and WAS ND (Network
Deployment).

IBM recommends installing ND on a separate machine because of the capcity
issue only, if your machines are powerful enough you have can the with the
number of server you have got.

For more information about different topologies you can have with the number
of servers you have got, check the installGuide_en.pdf for WAS ND and check
chapter 3 subsection "Putting it all together"
