Author Commerce Express 5.6 Maintenance/Downtime Redirect.

Hi all:
I have a Commerce Express 5.6 webserver that is running
5 different stores. Each store has it's own unique registered domain
name. At the domain level I have the Domain being forwarded over to the unique
Commerce application.
Exampe storeabc.com is forwarded to https://69.99.999.999/webapp/wcs/st...catalogId=10151

STOREDEF.com is forwarded to- https://69.99.999.999/webapp/wcs/st...catalogId=10100
ETC...

Now if I need to bring this server down to apply patches/ fixes etc, but I want to display a message to any user that the store is unavailable... What is the best method of doing so? The server resides at a hosting company, behind their firewall , so
I have no way of easily routing things on that end. And changing the forward on the Domain side can take hours to propogate, to say nothing of the folks that have the site bookmarked, pointing to the above direct address.

any ideas?
