| Nice,
More info about Rational application developer can be found here:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/inf...adrwd/index.jsp
This was announced at october 6, this doesn't mean it has been released
right? And no I'm not gonna ask when it will be available :-)

| Hi,
Are there already people with rad6 experience who are allowed to talk
about it (no nda) ?
I am a bit worried about wsad6/rad6 - I am a big fan of Eclipse and WSAD
but Rational XDE IMHO was overweight and pretty useless, so I am
wondering what the Rational guys have cooked up now. I really really
hope everything I like about WSAD is still there and not too many
Rationalisms have been added.
From a marketing point of view changing the name to anything else than
WSAD to me seems to be a mistake. I think the decision to call
everything Websphere This and Websphere That was a good one, silly to
change that after two major releases, just because some new developers
from another company came in.

| Most of the WSAD development team became Rational people last year, much
like myself. I have been using IBM Rational Application Developer for
WebSphere Software for a while - obviously development drivers. I work
for IBM so take my opinion for what it is worth, but I like most of the
new features and I am still exploring some of them. Note the full name
is IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software - we still
keep the connection to WebSphere but our integration with the overall
IBM Rational line of products is much improved. For example, our
support for annotation-based programming and WAS rapid deploy make
development for WAS better.

| So are they going to let you call it "rad six" and not have to say the
complete name the way they did with "websphere studio application
developer?" ;-)

Good to hear. Thanks for the response.
I am a bit puzzled by the statement that the development team changed
into Rational people though - didn't IBM buy Rational instead of the
other way around ? It reminds me a little of the takeover of Apple by
NeXT people (when officially Apple was buying NeXT) ;-).

| Yes, IBM acquired Rational. Rational had a full suite of development
tools except an IDE so Rational is (in my mind) the 'development' brand
of IBM. Looking at it like that, it makes sense that WSAD and the
development team moved into Rational. Obviously, we will still keep our
strong ties to WebSphere (especially since part of each team is in
Raleigh). The full official stuff is at:
http://www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/...ers/was_faq.pdf
so my rants are just my opinions :-).

| I am not sure yet - I think I have 5-6 notes on that topic I heve yet to
read ;-).
I wanted to call it IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere
Software, DB/2 UBD and Lotus with Ties to Tivoli, (IRAD4WSUDBaLwTtT) but
they decided to keep it simple ;-).

| Hi,
Should i be frightened by this phrase below?
"Application Developer includes IBM Rational ClearCase LT for reliable,
entry-level version control and out-of-the-box team support and supports
Concurrent Versions System and third-party software configuration
management systems through vendor plug-ins."
We are currently using WSAD 5.1.2 with CVS. Is the Eclipse CVS client
not enabled by default?
Regards,
/Fredrik

| No need to be worried, CVS continues to work just fine. We bundled CC
LT with WSAD, as well as the CC LT adapter. We also ship a CVS
adapter. I just connected to a CVS server yesterday using a newly
installed development drop of the code and it worked fine with no
modification/configuration on my part.
Bottom line, no change.

| Think about it; the CVS plugin is part of Eclipse so it's going to be
there regardless of the plugins IBM adds into the mix. I think their
users would slap 'em silly if they pulled something like making CC the
only team plugin that would work in their Eclipse-based products.
