Hi,

Can anyone tell me the difference between these two paramaters which are set in Websphere's Admin console (version 5.1), under Servers > Application
Servers > serverName > Process Definition > Java Virtual Machine...

-Initial Heap Size
-Generic JVM Arguments

Both deal with setting heap size for JVM, but what's the difference?

Thanks,

Rachelle,

The Initial Heap Size field is used for setting the Initial Heap Size
for the JVM (it is just an easier way for folks to parse the information
about the heap size settings without looking through all of the generic
JVM arguments) and is the recommended way to set the Initial Heap Size
when using WAS.

The Generic JVM Arguments field can be used for specifying any JVM
arguments - for example, any -D parameters or -X parameters or -XX
parameters (these might be specific to the particular OS and
Architecture of the JVM).
