I did this awhile back and didn't have problem. Maybe you can do the same see if it helps

Go to WebSphere_Portal server instance in Administrative Console
Under Server Infrastructure->Java and Process Managment->Process Definition.
Select Java virtual Machine once the panel opens.
Change the Initial Heap Size to 512 from default of no setting
Change the Maximum Heap Size to 1024 from 768
