I am not sure if it works, but it doesnt harm trying.
Why dont you try creating a datasource using the V8.2 JDBC provider, and provide the v9 DB host name and port number.
I think it should work. I configured a XA Datasource for a BPEL Cluster using 8.2 provider but the database was v9.
