Hi,
I had the same problem before. But We have a group within a group i.e nested groups. Lets say I have group A and B. Group B contains all the users and is a member of group B. so, I assigned rights to group B. None of the user was able to see the pages a
nd portlets. But When I gave rights to group B, user can see the pages and portlets. I don't know why. Default inharitance property is enabled. You can read the following article and try it for your environment.
