Admin Portlet won't display
|
|
|
| The admin portlet doesn't display, even when logged in as wpsadmin.
I am running Portal Test Environment 4.2 in Websphere Studio 5.0
I enter the url localhost/wps/portal and then log in as wpsadmin. All I get is a debug tab with "This is MyFirstPortlet portlet Operating in View mode".
There are no other tabs and no other items in the "My Favorites" dropdown. Am I missing something??

| Since you are using the Test env.. there is no admin portlet available..
Test env. takes care of logging in for you. Your portlet is running... And
what you are seeing is actually the portlet.
Try this expt.. don't do anything for a while and let the session time out,
and try reloading the page. It will ask you to login again..
Good luck

| Thx for the answer.
However, I really think I should have the functionality supplied by the Admin page group (Portlets,Portal Settings,Users and Groups,Security, and Portal Content).
My most compelling reason is that the portal documentation and Redbooks all contain instructions with using this functionality.
Is there a way to configure the environment so that I should have this functionality?
I installed Portal Server through the Toolkit install (I followed the instructions at this link http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docvie...g21110582&aid=1).
Alternately, how do I do everything I need to without having the admin functionality?

| Some of the documentation provided are for the portal server. The portal
toolkit is provided to develop and test portlet(s) quickly and easily (which
it really doesn't do well at all)..
However once you develop a portlet you can create a war and move it to a
portal server which provides you with all the capabilities you are looking
for.

| Thanks again for the reply.
Are you referring to deploying on a remote machine, or is there any possibility that I can do a regular install of Portal Server on the same machine where I have already installed Portal Server through the test environment?
That would give me the option of running within the test environment or in the full Portal environment.
If yes, that means that I would have the Portal Server test environment running within WSAD, on the App Server runtime within WSAD, and a separate Portal Server outside of WSAD running on a separate install of App Server.
Would there be any conflict if I were to go ahead and make a new separate install of Portal and App Server. Wouldn't there be a conflict with the Portal database installed on DB2?
Please advise if this is at all possible. If it is not, did you specifically mean that I can deploy to a remote machine?
Thanks,
Mark

| I was wondering why I can't just install the admin portlets within the test environment; after all aren't they just a couple of .war files ?
Please advise if this could be done, and how?
Thanks,
Mark
