Our company is in the process of evaluating a portal solution. We will be
selecting between WebSphere Portal and SAP Enterprise Portal (as we are
moving from JD Edwards to SAP). Can anyone who has evaluated these shed
some light on which one is the better solution. Why did you pick one over
the other? Also, after reading much documentation on WebSphere's
integration options with SAP, I see there are many options to perform this
integration. Can anyone that has implemented this integration discuss their
experience? What is the development effort to perform this integration?

Just a note: We are looking at version 5 of WebSphere Portal.

Thanks,
Scott

Wow.. great question...I don't have an answer for you now, but I'm
doing a similar investigation. I'm actually attending this
http://www6.sap.com/aps/usa/sapforum/ tomorrow to take a look at SAPs
portal. We do have some Websphere Portals in production, but I don't
have much information about the SAP side. If you have any information
about the SAP portal I can look at, it would be helpful. I'm building
a business case analysis about the two.

If you already have WPS, then it would seem like a better business and
technical decision to look into SAP portlets for WPS rather than having to
purchase, develop to and support yet another Portal framework.

For out of the box portlets, try the WPS Portlet catalog at:
http://www7b.software.ibm.com/wsdd/...portal/catalog/
Search for SAP. There appears to be several listed there, and there's also
the WPAI stuff which I've heard provides some SAP integration.

If the out of the box stuff doesn't suit your needs and you're not up for
coding up all the integration by hand with Java, I heard at the Boston WPS
show that IBM's Portlet Development Partner Bowstreet, has an SAP
integration solution with quite easy to develop and customize portlets. I
don't know SAP myself, but the benefit there would be working with a portlet
tool and solution that can also help you solve your other portlet needs as
well (Domino, DB...). They should be listed in the Portlet catalog too
(search for Bowstreet) or you could check their website. I've had good
luck getting technical evaluation type questions answered from
developer@bowstreet.com Let us know what you find. Does anybody using
their stuff with WPS want to share experiences with us?
