Portal Express User Limit
|
|
|
| Does anyone know for sure whether there is a user limit on WebSphere
Portal Express? I have not seen anything on the IBM website that would
suggest such a limit on the licesense. We have purchased the Portal
Express for development and there is nothing that specifies such a
limit, but our friendly IBM sales reps have mentioned a 2000 user
limit and also shown us a powerpoint with a 2000 user limit. If such a
limit does exist, wouldn't you expect to see it some where in BOLD
before you bought the product? If someone does know of the limit,
could you please refer me to a place that it is documented? Also, if
there is a user limit, is it hard coded in the server so that the
2001st user would not be able to register?

This are the terms of the license (a copy of which should be included in
your Portal express box):
You may not install more than 100 copies of Portal Express User License
Option on one server You may not provide portal access to more than 2,000
individuals on one server.

WebSphere Portal Express is licensed in two way, per CPU or per user.
The number 2000 is kind of the breaking point reference in determining
which licensing you would choose. My understanding is when you have
more than 2000 users, then per CPU licensing is cheaper. Note that the
CPU number is CPU in the partition. So if you have a machine with 12
CPUs and Portal Express runs in a LPAR with 2 CPU, you will buy 2 CPU
license.
I don't know of any hard limit number in the product.
