Search Indexing on Portal-Own Pages

I want to make portal pages available for search. I have played around
with the Search Administration to set up the search crawler, but it
seems that it can index all pages around the world but not the pages
in its own portal. I guess because to access the portal pages it has
to authenticate via the login screen.

Is there a way to index the own portal pages into a document
collection?
