Author Portal toolkit - installation complete, but test environment won't run portlets... ser
Lee Francis Wilhelmsen

Hi

So, after a lot of blood, sweat and tears I finally got the portal toolkit
with the Portlet 5.0.2 test environment installed.

However, although the local portlet server starts and my project is loaded
on the server, the browser won't connect because the servers view claims
that the server is stopped and I don't know why, but it seems it's right -
the server stops after it starts....

Included below is the:
url used to access the portlet
the console output
the server log (some exceptions are in norwegian, but I have loosly
translated them)

Can anyone help? I really thought everything was a success when the portlet
toolkit was installed so this is a real bummer

Regards
Lee Francis

The browser open up and tries to access

http://localhost:9081/wps/portal/!ut/p/.cmd/LoginUserNoAuth?userid=wpsadmin&password=wpsadmin
but gets the "The page cannot be displayed"

The server console says:

Sorry I can't help you as you're one step ahead of me. My install fails on
the test environment. Did you have a problem with that and if you did how
did you resolve it? I don't have any $ or . in my path and there's nothing
in the logs. Appreciate any tips you can give.

I've seen a similar situation in the past whereby the configuration for the
Portal Server test environment doesn't get updated when you choose "Run on
Server". The solution is to open up the server's configuration (double-click
on the server name from the Server window in the Portlet perspective) and,
accepting the message re changes, save and close the configuration. Once
you've done this, retry the "Run on server..".

Did I have a problem? Are you kidding? This is definatly the worst
installation scenario ever!!! Shame on you IBM, because this is just not
good enough!!!

I can't say for sure that this works since I still can't run portlets on my
machine, but here's what I did:

Install WebSphere Studio Application Developer 5.1
- Install Install WebSphere Studio Application Developer 5.1 (not 5.1.1!) to
a directory (not the default) that doesn't contain "dots".
- Otherwise the Portal Test Environment will fail. i.e E:\WSAD\ (refered to
below as <<WSAD>> )

Install WebSphere Studio Application Developer 5.1 fixpacks
- Not sure this is entirly nessessary, but without it my installation
failed. You can find them at
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awd...ppdev/support/. I installed
all 3.
- Close WSAD if it is running
- Follow the detailed description given in each fixpack

Install the fixpack for the WAS (WAS 5.0.2 Fixes)
- Close WSAD if it is running
- Unzip the fixpack contents to a temp directory (<<WAS_FIXES>> )
- Start the updateWizard.bat
- Check the checkbox for "specify procuct information"
- Browse to <<WSAD>>\runtimes\base_v5
- Select "install fixes"
- Browse to <<WAS_FIXES>>\efixes
- Select only the following choices:
PQ75469
PQ76567
PQ77142
PQ78166
PQ78382
PQ78882
PQ79083
PQ79193
PQ81020
PQ81248
WAS_Adapter_10-30-2003_5.0.2_cumulative_Fix
WAS_CM_08-12-2003_5.0.2-5.0.1_cumulative_Fix
WAS_Security_07-07-2003_JSSE_cumulative_Fix
WAS_Sessions_08-12-2003_5.0.2_cumulative_Fix

If you select
PQ77008
PQ78370
WAS_Plugin_09-03-2003_5.0.X_cumulative
the installation will fail

Install the portlet toolkit
Unzip the WebSphere Portal Server 5.0.2 to a temp directory (<<WSP>> )
Close WSAD if it is running
Start the portal toolkit installer program and then select
Portal Toolkit 5.0.2
WebSphere V5 Portal Test Environment
When asked for the WebSphere Portal V5.0 Installer browse to
"<<WPS>>\wps\wpsinstall.bat"

Install WebSphere Portal 5.0.2 Fix Pack 1
For local debugging with WebSphere Portal 5.0.2, you MUST update the
WebSphere Portal 5.0 Test Environment after Installing Portal Toolkit 5.0.2
with the WebSphere Portal 5.0 Test Environment.
Unzip the Portal fixpack contents to a temp directory (<<WSP_FIXES>> )
Close WSAD if it is running
Execute the following command from the command prompt:
<<WSAD>>\PortalToolkit\updatePortalTestEnv502.bat <<WSP_FIXES>>.
A rather long script will now be executed

Not 100% sure this is correct, but I get the install completed - still can't
run portlets though.... arrrgg

I got no message, but I saved the configuration and tried again, but no
change.

How can I be sure that the installation worked 100%?

I mean, when I don't associate any portlet project with my test server and
just start the server then I can access something that looks like the portal
server on http://localhost:9081/wps/portal (looks like a frameset) and some
SOAP xml on http://localhost:8881/wps/portal. There is also "something" on
http://localhost:9044/wps/portal

Did you get the latest version of toolkit from the IBM web site ?

It has a name of PortalToolkit502MP.exe. Get it here :

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/inf...s/portaltoolkit

Yes, that's the one I've been using. I'd be gratefull if you could tell me
just what you have done if you got it working. This is really difficult and
I'm no ace at either WAS, WPS or WSAD.

I think a lot of my flustration comes from the fact that the installation
procedure seems to be a little different when using WSAD 5.1 compared to
WSAD 5.0. For instance, WSAD 5.0 uses some kind of PTF installation that
must be extracted over the WSAD installation directory. This doesn't seem
nessessary for 5.1. At least not for me since I get messages such as "Fix
pack was50_fp1_win cannot be applied to the current version of this product"
when following the procedure.

This is the stuff I am talking about...

http://www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/...nstall_was.html

Don't think this applies to WSAD 5.1... does it?
