Author Role based customization

2005-10-24, 6:14 pm

I'm new to WebSphere Portal and will like to know if it is possible to d customizations based on user roles (not the end user). I want to have a base portal site, however will like to customize the page layout, portlets on the page etc. based on user grou
ps so that different sets of users will have different look and feel.
Is it possible? If it is how can this be achieved?

Thanks in advance.

Talking about different look and feel, I assume you want to have the
same page displayed in different themes/skins based on the user group.
This is not possilbe. You cannot assign themes/skins to pages based on
user groups.
What you can do, for example is this:
You have pageA which contains portletA and portletB. Both groupA and
groupB have access to pageA. However, groupA only has access to
portletA, and groupB only has access to portletB. So when a member of
groupA accesses pageA, then they will see only portletA. when a memeber
of groupB accesses pageA, they will only see portletB. In this case,
both users have a different look at the page from a page content point
of view.

Thanks for your reply Oliver.
I need users to get different themes/skins and page layouts depending on their group. Can I use "rules based personalization" to achieve this?

As I said, you cannot have different themes/skins per page based on
group memberships. You can only define one theme per page. There is no
relation between assigned themes and group membership.
