Notification within Websphere Portal

I'm assigned to manage implementation of websphere portal in my company. I would like to know if there is a feature of automatic notifications displayed to the users once they login to the system just like SAP portal. I would also like to know if uploadin
g files to the portal would require a separate document management system or just like the SAP portal ships with product.
