No jdbc provider types available when creating datasource for Portal 5101 UTE

Our desktop department has recently created a developer machine which contains RAD 6.01 and Portal 5.1.0.1 Test Environment. I have been tasked with testing the image before we roll it out. I have the following problem though;
After creating a new Portal 5.1 Test Environment server, i went to the datasource tab to create a new datasource. I then click 'Add' on the jdbc provider list section and am shown a popup with a list of providers. However when i select any of them , i do
not get the appropriate list of provider types - it just remains blank. This problem does not occur when i use a Portal 5.0 Test Environment. Nor have i seen it happen on the numerous times i have manually installed RAD and Portal 5101 UTE myself.
Any ideas on what is causing this, and how i may remedy it without a reinstall.
