Hi all.

Well after the success of the JSPBatchCompiler issue that has been solved
here on the newsgroup I'm all set with another issue. :-)

I've noticed that when searching for people by name in the People Finder
portlet the name is case sensitive. Is there a way that this can be disabled
(case insensitive searches)?

ie. My name is "Tony Cooke". If I do a search for "tony" no results come
back but if I search for "Tony" I get a hit.

Thanks in advance for any help.

All the best,
Tony

Hi all.

I was checking the online help for people finder and came across the
following:

When you enter search text, keep these guidelines in mind:
a.. Searching is not case-sensitive, so m and M are treated as the same
letter.
b.. In most cases, a match is returned if an entry is found that begins
with the text you entered. For example, the search text ma would find Mary
or Mary Beth in a first name field.
If you are unsure of the spelling, enter a person's name correctly as far
as you can. For example, if you are unsure whether someone's name is Patrice
or Patricia, enter the following string:

Patric
c.. In a search for a name, several fields are searched in various
combinations, and you can use a comma to indicate a lastname, firstname
format. For example, if you enter John Steven, matches include John Steven,
John Stevenson, Steven John, Steven Johns, and Steven Johnson. And if you
enter doe, j matches include Jane Doe and John Doe.
d.. Hyphenated words are treated as one word.
e.. Matching is additive. In other words, if you enter search text in the
First name field and also in the Last name field, only people who have a
first name that contains the First name search text and a last name that
contains the Last name search text are returned.
Could someone then please tell me why our searches ARE case sensitive?

Thanks again.

All the best,
Tony

Hi again.

At some later stage the portal will be connected to TAM (Tivoli Access
Manager = LDAP directory).

Since People Finder is only accessing the database of users at the moment
and the user names are stored in a camel case way (eg. Tony Cooke) does the
search then have case issues whereas an LDAP search may not care?

Has anyone else found this?

All the best,
Tony
