Hi,

I am trying to install Websphere Portal for Multiplatforms version on Win 2K
machine but getting this strange error. Installation program works fine and
install Websphere application server and fix packs and then when it install
portal server it fails at a point and says something like 'Unable to install
portlets'. After pressing Ok, the installation continues and install Content
publishing server.
Now the problem is, when I try to start Portal Server it gives me error
which says:

com.ibm.websphere.management.exception.NoServerDefinedException: No
configuration defined for server: WebSphere_Portal

I opened Websphere admin console but couldn't find Websphere_Portal server
in the servers list which means portal installation didn't create
'Websphere_Portal' application server and other necessary resources required
for Portal server..

I tried the installation several time but every time I get the same problem.

Has anyone come across this error before? Please let me know if you are
aware of this problem and know how to fix it.

Kind Regards,
Sanjay

We are also facing the same issue. Any thoughts how to resolve this?

I have the same problem with WPS 5.1.0.1 on a Win2k box and with Win2k Advanced Server. I suppose it could be an hardware issue - cause a privious installition on an server mashine with Win2k Advanced Server and serveral CPUŽs went fine.

I have fixed the problem for my installation.
The archive1 on CD4-1 was brocken. So I am not surprised that there was an error that WAS/WPS or a path to it couldŽnt be found. With an new archive1 the installation build successful

Hi,
I had the same problem yesterday. But I think it's probably the path that you are facing the problem with. I was not able to install the Test Environment feature for Portal v5.1 because it did not access the path correctly.

Here is the solution for this problem.

You can find a tech note on support site.
Precisely follow this tech note..

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docvie...8&cc=us&lang=en

BTW, the server.xml file is in app server\config\cells\<name>\nodes\<name>\servers\WebSphere_Portal\server.xml
