upload portlet on portal 5.1.0.2 gives heapdump and javacore error

I wrote a portlet that uploads files, randomly while trying to upload I get a heapdump and a javacore error and the server will hang while these files are written. I am currently running portal 5.1.0.2 on SLES 9. I am not sure if it is a coding problem su
ch as I am not closing a database connection or a problem on the server any help or suggestions would be greatly welcomed.
