Author Web Content Workflow question

2006-10-13, 7:51 pm

Portal v6.0. Widows.

How can you reject a content that is in Draft state? I see no way of doing this. I can only approve content. I have setup a rejected stage in my workflow. I see no menu item or button that says reject or anything like it.

Thanks.

Hi

I've not yet tried this, but you may find this document to be of use: -

Understanding workflows in IBM Workplace Web Content Management 2.5/5.1

http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwor...wwcm-workflows/

as it takes you through the steps of creating the workflow elements etc.

Basically, in WCM there is no option to Reject Content in Draft stage, whenever a content reaches the stage prior to publish stage then in that case it can be either rejected or approved for published.

InfoCenter talks about these content states only:

1. Draft
2. Published
3. Expired
4. Rejected

It's not very clear at all how contents are rejected. No action type is defined for rejection. Can someone please provide the steps.

Dear nnn,
Reject is a special stage, there is no action needed to be defined for rejection. First, define a normal stage with name "Reject" and if required you can associate actions like email or something else(but no need of reject action). Afterwards, while defin
ing the WorkFlow, you will be able to select a reject stage where you will select the stage defined with the name of reject.
Whenever the user clicks the reject button, shown at the stage just b4 publish, the content will pass through the Reject stage and executes actiobns associated and finally the content ends in Draft stage, remeber that the content does not stay in the stag
e of Reject.
Thats it!!

I have already tried all that. I did not see any button or menu called Reject anywhere. When I select a Content that is in DRAFT state, I see two menu items:

- Approve
- Next stage

I did not see any difference between the two options. But, that's another issue.

There is no option to reject items. What am I missing?

dear nnn, ;)
tell me the steps u have followed to create the workflow and also gimme ur email so i can show the whole process using Images.
BTW
In my workflow there are 4 stages.

1- Draft
2- Review (for the content at this stage, there are 2 options either Reject using Reject Button or move it to Oublish stage using Next Stage)
3- Publish
4- Reject(Special Stage)

Its not an issue at all. give ur email and i will definitely solve ur problem.

take care

Hi mir,

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. Let's use this group to solve the problem so others can also follow what's going on.

I have a workflow designed as follows:

Stage name: Draft
Actions: None

Stage name: My Publish Stage
Actions: A publish action

Reject stage name: Reject
Actions: None.

You can send me the images at bibhas at webagesolutions.com. I see no way to attach images using my reader.

Assalam-o-Alaikum All(May Peace be with you all)

Oh...i got ur problem

U have created only two stages.

1-Draft
2-Publish

A content can be rejected provided two conditions.
a) its in a stage just prior to Publish stage(which in ur case is correct)
b) its in a stage other than Draft & Publish(which is not true in ur case)

The logical reasoning for the clause 'b' is that all contents which get rejected ends up in Draft stage so there is no sense to reject a content already in Draft and also there is no logical reason as well to reject a content already published.

so create an intermediate stage like Review(which i can bet you will need in ur workflow) and then send a content from Draft to Review stage and then open that content in WCM to see the Reject button right next to "Next Stage".

I hope it solves ur problem

That's right. There has to be at least two stages where the content stays in DRAFT state. When the content is in the second of these two stages, you get the Reject button. Now my work flow is made up of these stages:

Stage: Draft.
- Entry action: None.
- Exit action: None.

Stage: Approve. In this stage, the Reject button is displayed at this stage.
- Entry action: None.
- Exit action: None.

Stage: Approve.
- Entry action: Publish action.
- Exit action: None.
