Portal 5.1.0.1 is hung at logon.

Our Portal is currently hung try to log on. Error in the wps log states Java errors trying to resolve a variable called escapeXMLWriter. This variable is new with 5.1.0.1. I compared it to a 5.1 install. The errors occur in the ToolBarInclude, AdminLi
nkBarInclude, PlaceBarInclude, SearchBarInclude and NavigationTreeInclude JSP's. A custom theme has been removed at the suggestion of IBM, but haven't heard from them since, yet we have the same error. Has anybody else seen this ? If you have, what did
you do to fix this ? Please let me know.....Thanks.

Found the problem. Developer had removed a line from the Default.jsp script when updating a theme. The scripts are different from 5.1 to 5.1.0.1 and she had used a script from the previous release. The code missing was:
<wps:defineObjects/>
