In a portlet, when you make an AJAX call to your servlet (not portlet class), you are unable to save user preferences to the database. While I can managed to make a portlet form request to processAction () method, the user preference then get stored in d
atabase, however, the portal page will get rendered (re-flashed) again.

So, the problem: how to make an AJAX call and save the user preferences, while the portal page will not get re-flashed?
