redirect to page or portlet from action of the portlet

Hi all,
i want to know how we redirect to one page or portlet or on to next layer of pages from portlet action class.
i have a problem ,based on some condition we want to display portlet on a page(myportal->page)and also on some condition we want to go directly to some other
page (myportal->page->subpage)without displaying the middle layer page.
i want know how can we write the logic in the portlet to do so.
Any pointers are appreciated.
