Author help on hardware requirement

Concerning memory requirement of WebSphere Portal 5.1.0.3 on Linux Intel machines (but also on other platform), Infocenter says 'Physical memory: 1.5 GB or more per processor'.

Why memory requirement are specified 'per processor'? I don't understanded this, it seems strange. WebSphere Application Server, for example, doesn't have this type of memory requirement based on the number of processors.
