Is there a mechanism (tag?) that allows setting security/access on individual links in portal content ? E.g. only users in 'Security' LDAP group can see the link ? May be some alternative approach to achieve the same result ?

If you set a custom unique name for the page that's being linked to, you can use the contentNode attribute of the URLGeneration tag. Portal will, by default, check to see if the user has access to that contentNode before outputting the link. Alternative
ly, have a look at the <portal:user attribute="value"/> tag.
