| I am trying to setup a Portal Authoring/Rendering topology where I have a separate Portal server instance for Authoring WCM content and Rendering WCM content. The initial environment I am trying to setup only has one physical machine available.

What I've got so far is one WAS Dmgr managing one node with a Portal instance installed and running on it.

Now I need to create a second Portal server instance to be used as an Authoring server. I have tried creating a new WAS managed node with a WAS server and installing Portal into it. The install seems to work until I go to update the Portal with the latest
FP. I get an error saying that the wspadmin password information is missing. And no matter what I enter into the config files it continues to give this error.

So I uninstalled Portal and removed the managed node. Created an unmanaged node and created a WAS profile on it then installed Portal against that. The same error occurred.

So I uninstalled that, and installed Portal from the disks with a new WAS install and Portal install. The installation failed.

So I tried installing WAS on it's own in a new directory. Updated WAS and then installed Portal against that. The installation worked but when I tried to update it, I received the same password error.

Can I even accomplish what I am trying to do? Can you have 2 Portal instances installed on the same machine? If so, what is the process to do so?

I've attached a screen shot of the update failing on the password.
