debugging WP6 with RAD7
|
|
|
| What is your experience debugging WP6.0 with RAD7. In my case server takes good
30 min or so to come up, publishing takes long too and server usually craches after publishing is done. ??

|
| I had the same issues when i tried it, but I didn't have the patience to wait for 30'. My guess would be that there are things that time-out, hence the delay.

|
| there is got to be a way to do debugging in a reasonable fashion ...

| Hi,
I can debug portlets in WPS 6.0 with RAD7. Ok, the portal take a long time to start up, but after that I could debug without problems. Do you have all updates of RAD7 and WPS 6.0 (6.0.0.1)?
By the way, in my computer the portal takes less than 10 minutes to start up. My computer is a P4 3.0 with 2Gb RAM. My experience tells me that a computer with 1,5Gb RAM or less is not the ideal machine to run RAD7 and WPS 6.0 at the same time! A good dis
k is important to. I have a RAID 0 system with 2 disks of 7200RPM and the start up time is about 2/3 of the time in machine with a single disk

Anyone aware of debugging portlet/portal application on a remote server. I have a remote portal server(WPS 6) configured and am not able to perform a Debug on it from RAD 7. The moment i say Debug on Server for a portal project it tries for restart that
server and because remote server cannot be started from within RAD it fails.

|
| Start the server first and then do Run on server in RAD. This will publish your code to already running server.

|
| I have P4 2Ghz 2Gb. Did you remove/disable any out-of the box portal applications to make startup faster ?
| |
|
| No, I don't.
I have already think about it to reduce start up time. But then I analyze logs and the applications installed and I see that there is about 40 portlets application that can be unninstalled in a test environment.
The problem is that I analyze the time wasted to start each portlet application in logs and it will only reduce the start time in about 90/120 seconds (2 minutes in 10 or 20 is nothing).
This is not cientific! I never try to confirm this values.. I just do some calculations.

| My question was specifically on how to use the Debug on Server, not Run on Server. I am able to use Run on Server, but for Debug on Server the issue is that RAD tries to re-start the server and because a WPS 6 remote server cannot be started from within
RAD it fails.
