Using <portal:urlGeneration> tag for inter-portlet communication

Hi All,
I am working on JSR 168 portlets with WPS v5.1.
I am able to pass the parameters in between the portlets using <portal:urlGeneration> tag.
Is it advisable to use this tag for inter-portlet communication ?
Plz let me know your view on this.
