Document link from PDM that launches document in authoring tool

Does anyone know of a way to produce a document link that launches a document in the authoring tool?

The link produced via the 'Send Link' is a document link that take you to the preview of the document in the browser.

Example: The document link to a Microsoft Word document (abc.doc) that will launch Microsoft Word with the document (abc.doc) loaded.
