Hi all

Configuration description:
2 Edge Servers running on 2 different B50 with AIX 5.1
2 IBM HTTP Servers running on Suse 7.3 with kernel version 2.4.18-4GB

Problem description:
If I configure an alias on loopback interface, in the same network address
as on of the interfaces (for ex: eth1), the system no longer responds on
that interface.

Notes:
On de Edge Server documentation, it refers that this is well knonw arp
problem, and it requires a patch. Unfortunately, the patch doesn't work for
this linux version (Suse 7.3 with kernel version 2.4.18).

Did you have a similar problem? How did you solve it?

I haven't tried this on a SuSE kernel but I expect it's the same problem
we found on the later RedHat kernels where the patch doesn't install
cleanly (at least the latest patch 2 or 3 months ago didn't). If you go
to our main support page and search for "loopback patch", the second
Hint&Tip is about "Linux loopback patch does not apply cleanly". Take a
look at the instructions in there for converting the patch to work on
the later RedHat kernels. The SuSE kernels should be the same (or very
similar).
