Hi,

I had posted a problem a while ago about my dsserver stops running
after a few hours.

I have been unforutnate not to receive a reply from the experts
visiting this group.

Would like to try my luck again?

What's the impact if the dsserver goes down?

I still requests going to my clustered Web Servers and i thought it is
the dsserver that is routing these requests.

Appreciate any reply.

Thanks

The Java dsserver process does several things. It is the access point
for you to run dscontrol commands and interact with the Load Balancer
product (either changing configuration values or querying stats). It
also runs the manager and advisor threads, the advisors checking server
health and the manager setting the dynamic weights for the servers.

Note: the kernel module is the one performing the actual load balancing
of packets, not the user space Java process.

What will you lose when dsserver dies? Well, you can no longer run
dscontrol commands obviously, but more importantly you lose the advisor
functionality and Load Balancer will not get updates about servers going
offline or coming back online. The kernel will load balance with the
last set of information it received (weights and what servers are
available).

This is definately something you want to track down and fix. Check for
any javacore*.txt files on the system or any hints the LB logs. If
nothing shows up, then I'd open a PMR with the IBM L2 support team to
find out if there are any known problems with your level of Java or LB code.
