Hi,
I am trying to install edge server 5.1 on Windows 2000 server. I am
installing only load balancer component.

I am facing following issues and all relates to one common error
Error: unable to access RMI server.

I have looked into some messages that are earlier posted and tried to
check is there is confusion of IP address while returning
getLocalHost() command. That works fine for me it returns me the
server name /IP address properly. No issues with the keys also.

I tried to work with command line since GUI was not responding. But
while stopping DSSERVER I got the same error again. The RMI ports are
configures OK and there is not firewall installed on the system.

If I look into the IBM documentation for this error I am getting
confused.
The dscontrol command returns: Error: Server not responding. Or, the
lbadmin command returns: Error: unable to access RMI server. These
errors can result when your machine has a socksified stack. To correct
this problem, edit the socks.cnf file to contain the following lines:

EXCLUDE-MODULE java
EXCLUDE-MODULE javaw

I am sure there is no issues with the JRE version I am using the same
JDK provided with Edge server CD.

I look forward for a response from this group and any suggestions
would be highly appreciated.

Warm Regards,
Rohit

Hello Rohit,

I have similar problem. Have you had any luck resolving your problem.

here is a brief description of what I notice.

The New Java Version is:
----------clip-----------
/opt/IBMJava2-141/jre/bin/java -version
java version "1.4.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1)
Classic VM (build 1.4.1, J2RE 1.4.1 IBM build cxia321411-20040301 (JIT
enabled: jitc))
----------clip-----------

The Kernel Version is
----------clip-----------
uname -a
Linux cleo 2.4.21-15.ELsmp #1 SMP Thu Apr 22 00:18:24 EDT 2004 i686 i686
i386 GNU/Linux
----------clip-----------

The ibm load balancer Version is "5.1-14".

IBM SDK 1.4.1SR2.

The DSControl command works for an hour or two after the server starts. The problem with the error comes about after the 3rd hour.

The logs show the following.

Jul08 10:33:49.231 EEST SRV: SRV_CommandHandler.runCommand received: [advisor start http 80 http_80.log ]
Jul08 10:34:30.385 EEST SRV: SRV_CommandHandler.runCommand received: [advisor report http 80 ]
Jul08 11:33:20.815 EEST SAVE: Saving configuration to file.
Jul08 12:33:20.865 EEST SAVE: Saving configuration to file.
Jul08 13:33:20.932 EEST SAVE: Saving configuration to file.

Note: The configuration file is succesfully saved every hour for the 1st 3hours.

and then a DSControl command gives the following error.

"Error: Server not responding.

Hi Vidur,

I was facing problem only in DSSERVER STOP command, and against the
PMR that i have opened I am waiting for the response from IBM. I guess
it would be a fix that needs to be applied against eLBW2K-5.1.0.14.exe
and an IBM L3 developer is working on it.

In your case the problem seems to me that the DSSERVER stops
responding completly after 3 hours.

Actuall you should not face this problem. As from my experience the
DSSERVER commands run continuously for many hours.

The cause of this error Error: Server not responding is mostly if the
program gets UnknownHostException. What you could do is first ensure
that DSSERVER is a long running process. I dont have much idea about
Linus but ensure that ann netwok configuration is proper.

hope this helps,

Warm Regards,
Rohit
