Author Edge Server a dead product?

I don't seem to get a clear answer on this and can't find the right
documentation.

Is Edge Server no longer a separate product?
Is the load balancing duty of Edge Server rolled into all versions of WAS
5.0 and above?
If I have 2 licenses of Edge Server do I now need 2 (more expensive)
licenses of WAS to replace them?

Thanks,
Russ

Ignore this thread, I have a CD of the Edge Components and docs for WAS 5.

Not so clear for me Russell...
So is Edge Server no longer a separate product or not?

Thanks

Edge Server is part of WebSphere Network Deployment (in the Edge
Components). So that it has become kind of a "feature" of WebSphere to do
load-balancing, instead of requiring an additional product.

Thanks for the reply.

So I have to pay a WAS ND license to install the "Egde components"?
D5ALTLL - WEBSPHERE APPLICATION SRVR NETWORK DEPLOYMENT PROCESSOR LIC+SW
MAINT 12 MO = 15.214 euros?!?!?!?!??!

Are you sure?

We were told the following about licensing:

Most of WebSphere Edge Server (which previously was sold as a separate
product, licensed by Server, not processor) is now in WAS ND v5 and is known
as "Edge Components". It can be found on the WAS ND DMZ CD. It is a subset
of the features contained in Edge Server 2.0. The key basic features that
99% of our customers used in Edge and are included in Edge Components are:
a.. Load Balancer (IP Sprayer)
b.. Caching Proxy (to cache pages to avoid traffic back to the appl
server)

The licensing considerations of Edge Components are:
a.. Complementary Usage
a.. If the customer wants to deploy the Edge Components separately
from WAS (and still use WAS) the customer must purchase 4 WAS ND licenses to
deploy 1 Edge Component on another server
b.. Standalone usage
a.. If the customer wants to deploy the Edge Components separate from
WAS and not deploy WAS (i.e.they use a competitors Appl Server), the
customer can purchase 1 WAS Network Deployment license for this purpose (and
only use the Edge Components).
c.. Co-resident Usage
a.. If the customer wants to deploy the Edge Components on the same
machine as WAS, they can do so with 1 license (but this is not a very useful
option given what Edge does)

Hi Russell,
sorry I'm here again because it's an important question.

I'm interested on the Standalone usage.
If I understand well, I always need to purchase a WAS Network Deployment
license (part number D5ALTLL) for 15214 euro to use the Edge components as
I've done before with Edge Server 2.0 as standalone product.

Is it right?

Thanks again

Marco Fabbri
